Have a Blessed Day!

I thought I’d take a few moments to pop in and wish those who celebrate a very Merry Christmas!

My extended family all celebrates it so we will be visiting both sides over today and tomorrow.  We have small gifts for the nieces and nephews and I made fudge and cookies for everyone to enjoy.  The last batch of cookies still needs to be baked this morning, but the dough is chilled and ready for rolling.  The only other gift I have is a pair of mittens for my mother-in-law that I knit myself (and just finished last night).

May you and yours be blessed today and always.

Succumbing to the call of the knitting needles

After 24+ years as a devout crocheter, I guess you can say I’ve expanded my horizons. I never thought I would be a knitter. Past attempts had proved disasterous and so I stayed with my faithful crochet hooks.

This summer I received The Yarn Ball… a 255 yard ball of pink eyelash yarn. I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to do with that much eyelash yarn. With it, however, was a dvd with knitting instructions. I decided to give knitting another shot. The dvd gave instructions for both English and Continental style knitting. After a cursory glance at both styles I decided to use the English style as it seemed the most comfortable for me. I know many who prefer continental, but English made more sense to me. So I got down knitting and purling and have been doing alright.

Now, a week ago, I happened to find a cabling needle on the ground while getting out of my car. I picked it up and took it home with me. Today I decided to play with it and made this swatch…

I know there’s a lot of glare, but this was without the flash. I tried with flash and all I got was a pure white square.

Anyways, not bad for a first cable. :-)

And no I have not abandoned crochet.  Not by a long shot. ;)

I found me on Ravelry!

I was browsing patterns in Ravelry and discovered one of my very own patterns was already listed! How cool is that! I then contacted admin so now I am connected to it as the designer so I can edit and do whatever with the listing. The pattern is an afghan square I called Jesse’s Square. I was putting together a comfort afghan for a man my husband worked with who suffered an awful head injury at work. (He fell 10 feet off a ladder onto his head onto concrete.) I decided to try my hand at designing my own pattern for my square and that is what I came up with. It is one of two patterns that I have had officially published. It is in the 2007 Crochet Pattern-a-Day Calendar from Accord Publishing (January 26th). My other published pattern is in the same Calendar, also a square pattern called Six Pointed Star (April 19-22).

A Song

I thought I would share a song I recorded of myself a while back. It is an Italian aria called O Del Mio Dolce Ardor.  Enjoy!

Latest Comfortghans

I thought I’d share the past couple comfortghans I have assembled for Heartmade Blessings.

Regina Shipp in memory of Darrell W. Shipp

Darrell W. Shipp was a soldier killed in Baghdad by an IED on January 25, 2007. I left his rank off, not out of disrespect, but because there is a discepancy. Some sites list him as a PFC where others list him as SPC. Anyways, here is a photo of the comfortghan that was sent to his mother.

Nancy Chrest

Nancy is my cousin and she was diagnosed with brain stem cancer. Here is the comfortghan I sent to her.

Bread & Hats

There just isn’t anything more wonderful than fresh homemade bread. I love to make bread, but I don’t make it often enough. Yes, I do make a batch of bread about once a week, but we still tend to buy much of our bread at the store. Today I made bread. Most of the time the kind of bread I make uses a flat stone to bake it on, today I needed bread pans. I took a picture of one of my loaves I made. I tend to use it to make sandwiches and such. I like the recipe I used as the loaf remained soft and doesn’t have a hard crust like many homemade breads tend to have. I think I will keep this recipe. :-)

Yesterday I finished a hat I started on Saturday evening for my youngest daughter. I saw the pattern for the rolled brim hat and thought it was great! I used a dark brown (coffee) as the main color and used a dark pink (light raspberry) for the hat band color. It turned out very cute, and my daughter loves it and has hardly left her head since it was finished.
